How to Make the Best Use of the Online Database
Please note the contents of this database are designed to be used while on-line only, our logic here is that this means we can make changes to the content as any time – so you get the most up-to-date information available. This continuous updating process relies on YOU providing us with feedback after your exams. Feedback we get given (either by emailing us directly or via our forum) gets checked and then added straight in when we have complete questions. If you have a problem with some questions on the database, please place a question on the Forum atpforum.eu so that our Subject Matter Experts can advise you directly. Tech Support are not Subject Matter Experts and therefore will not be able to answer questions directly concerning content.
General advice is that students, who are taking their exams in the UK, should only study the v2 database. All other students should study from BOTH v2 AND v3. For UK students however, recent feedback indicates that occasionally a question may appear in UK exams that has been taken from v3; although this is rare and is only the odd question, you may wish to look through the v3 database if you have the time. Currently this seems most prevalent in General Navigation and Radio Navigation.
Forgotten password. When you set up your account, you will have set up your username and password. If you forget or wish to change your password, please use the ‘Forgot Your Password?’ option below the login button and enter the email address you supplied during your signup. Please be aware there is no facility for you to change your username, however, if you send us an email, we can do this for you.
The graph on the front page indicates the practice exams and the dates you have taken them. The colour coded buttons will indicate your performance score (Red – score below 75%; Amber – score between 75% and 79%; Green – score over 79%). The 20 latest completed exams will appear on the graph.
Once you have logged into ATPL Online you can change the course details you have set up by following the 'Change Course Details' link in the Course Setup box on the home page. Here you can change the course you are assigned to ATPL(A), ATPL(H), CPL(A) etc and also which database you are using Version 2, Version 3. The Save button preserves these settings for when you next log-in.
There are various ways of using the database and we have currently set-up a few different ways of choosing questions sets. Which option you prefer to use is based on personal choice but here is a simple explanation of the options available:
Practice Exam Containing a Set Number of Exam Questions. This option pulls a random selection of the number of questions you’ll be given in the real exam: useful, so you can see if you’re likely to complete all the questions in the time available for the exam (see Note 1).
Practice Exam Containing a Variable Number of Exam Questions. As Option 1 but this time you can set yourself a greater or lesser number of questions - up to 100 at a time from the drop down menu. Remember this is always a random selection so you can’t be certain you’ve seen every question in a particular subject (see Note 2).
Note 1: If you are having problems with a particular question, you have the opportunity to flag the question as a ‘problem' to review later.
Note 2: There is a tick box available that will only show unseen questions and means that you can see all of the questions in the database. As you go through the subject you will notice that the number of available questions reduces as you go through each exam. However, once all questions have been seen and you have been through the questions you have either got wrong or flagged as a ‘problem’ within the Test on Problem Questions option, you may wish to see all the questions again. To do this use the Sequential Question Set (see below).
At the end of a test, you will be asked to enter a name for the test. It is defaulted to the abbreviated subject name eg GEN, but you can called it anything you wish up to 50 characters. It will automatically record the date you took the test and the score you achieved. All attempted tests of 20 questions or more will be recorded on the graph on your home page. If you do not complete the test, the system will show that you have got the unanswered questions wrong and they will appear on your problem questions list (see below).
Pre NPA 25 Learning Objectives can be found by using the link below. The 2 blocks of numbers on the identifier do NOT include the subject number.

Sequential Question Set. This option allows you to work your way sequentially through all the questions in a subject. Decide how many questions you want to see for each exam and then can systematically work through the subject. The database does not remember your last question so you have to remember how far you’ve got (starting at 1, working through 20 questions – next time you start, your start point is 21). This option is limited to a maximum of 200 questions at any one time. Experience has shown us that limiting the number of questions allows the system to function more efficiently and students are better protected if their internet goes down for any reason.
Test on Problem Questions. After you have gone through all of the questions, you can then test yourself (after further revision) on all of the questions that you have either got wrong or have flagged as 'problems' (see Note 2). All questions are listed by subject and will remain in this list until you have answered them correctly. If a flagged question is answered correctly it will be removed from the list unless it is flagged again. To select the questions you wish to do again, highlight each question (CTRL + mouse click)
Search for Questions. You can search for questions using this option by entering specific words and phrases. The search only looks for the words contained within the questions and is only as accurate as the information you enter.
As you work through the questions, the "info" button offers additional information concerning the correct answers but if this information is insufficient or you've a question about how an answer is reached which has no "info" available so far, please check on the forum at atpforum.eu to see if the explanation is already available (use the search facility by question ID). If not, please post a query in the relevant section of the Technical Subject section, making sure you include the question ID so that one of the tech experts can explain it.
We try really hard to continuously improve the database but this needs you to send us feedback. If you find any typos, duplicates, weird formatting – really anything that hampers your studying, then please let us know. If you can think of improvements we can make, please feel free to say so. We can’t promise miracles but this is an evolving system – the sequential and search options for this new version only came about following feedback!
Now get to work – but remember - memorising all the answers isn't an option for these exams, you must understand how the answers are reached, that way when you get given a calculation you've seen before but using a different chart you apply your knowledge and can get the correct answer.
We only offer technical support 9-5, Monday to Friday (UK time) but if you have an urgent problem please send us an email or put a post on the forum – leaving us a telephone message will definitely mean no-one will get back to you until Monday morning at the earliest.
